Changing the title

Modified on Tue, 1 Dec, 2020 at 4:07 PM

You can change the title of a page when editing the page. However there can be unexpected consequences.

Beneath the title you will find the Permalink for this page. This is the web address for this specific page. The permalink is automatically created from the title of the page, so there’s no need to worry about it unless you change the title of the page.

In general we do not recommend that you change the title of your pages. If you do need to change the title of your page you will also have to carefully alter the permalink if you wish to ensure the page link matches the page title.

Here I have decided to change the name of my page to ‘My New Page’ and I have clicked the blue Update button to save my changes. As you can see, the permalink does not reflect my new title.

By clicking on the Edit button at the end of the permalink, you can alter the web address.

Permalinks must NOT contain any spaces, special characters or punctuation except the hyphen.

To keep the style consistent across your website, we recommend that you add a dash in between each word of the permalink. Click OK to save your permalink changes.

Be aware that if there are links to this page on your site or elsewhere, they will still link to the old permalink. Since this permalink will no longer exist, a page not found error will display. Please remember to update your links if you change the permalink of a page.
