Schedule a start and end date for an Alert (or News item) (written instructions)

This tutorial will show you how to schedule a start and end date for a new Alert or News item.


Ensure you are logged into your website. The black admin toolbar should be visible at the top of the screen.

Hover your mouse over + New in the admin toolbar, and select Alert (or News) from the drop-down that appears.

You are now in the Alert editor. Add a title in the title box.

Add more details to the description box.

Use the primary website link text box to add meaningful link text (if you need to use a link). Learn about writing meaningful link text.

Add the URL for the site you'd like to link to (if needed) to the Primary website link box.

To schedule the alert for the future, select the Edit link next to Publish immediately in the Publish box.

Select the month, day and year when you would like the Alert to be published on your website.

Now type the time when you would like the Alert (or News) to be published.

NOTE: this is using the 24 hour clock

Once you are happy with the date and time for your Alert (or News) to be published, select the OK button.

To select the date when you would like the Alert (or News) removed from the website, use the Unpublish on: box to set a date and time. 

NOTE: you can also use the calendar icon to manually pick a date from a calendar.

Once you are happy with your Alert, and the times when you have scheduled it to be added and taken down, select the Schedule button.

Your Alert (or News) will now be scheduled. You will get a confirmation pop-up to remind you when you have scheduled it to appear.

You can use the Preview post link in the confirmation message to check how your Alert is going to appear.

Your scheduled Alert (or News) is now scheduled to publish and unpublish automatically.
